Shakira has won a major court ruling in Spain after more than eight years of legal dispute over her 2011 tax status.
A Spanish court ruled that tax authorities did not prove the Colombian singer spent enough time in the country that year to be considered a Spanish tax resident. The decision orders the return of about €60 million, including interest, connected to the case.
The ruling centers on where Shakira lived in 2011 and whether Spain had the right to tax her worldwide income for that year. The court found that the evidence presented was not enough to support the government’s position.
