Jimmy Barnes has shared a personal tribute to Sam Neill, remembering the late actor as a close friend whose place in his life went far beyond the entertainment world. In a message posted after Neill’s death, the Australian rock singer said his friend was family and reflected on the deep bond they built over many years.
Barnes recalled time spent together enjoying food, wine, music and long conversations. His tribute described Neill as warm, generous and funny, with a natural ability to make the people around him feel welcome. The memories offered a quieter picture of the celebrated actor away from film sets and public appearances.
Neill died in Sydney on July 13 at age 78, surrounded by family. Known internationally for Jurassic Park, The Piano and a wide range of film and television roles, he built a career that lasted more than five decades.
