The Prairie du Chien School District is making plans to hire a School Resource Officer. The Prairie du Chien Police Department and the school district will draw up a contract for a school resource officer to be presented at the Committee of the Whole meeting on Monday. If approved by the school board and the city of Prairie du Chien, the School Resource Officer will begin in January of 2023. According to a report, Prairie du Chien Police Chief Kyle Teynor says the School Resource Officer will cost the school district approximately $58,000 the first year, $60,000 the second year, and $62,000 the third year. Teynor also says that there are always grants being explored to off-set costs. However, none have been awarded yet for this particular project.
