A Viroqua man allegedly involved in a drunk driving accident is bound over for trial. 38-year-old Brett Burkum faces five charges including Operating While Intoxicated-Causing Injury. According to a criminal complaint, Burkum was allegedly driving drunk when he crossed the center line and crashed into another vehicle on Highway 14/61 just south of Viroqua. The victim was taken to the hospital with broken bones in her legs, ankle and pelvis. Blood tests later revealed Burkum had a blood alcohol content of nearly .25%. A Vernon County judge found probable cause to hold him for trial. If convicted, Burkham faces a maximum of 33 years in jail. He will be back in court on September 3rd.
