Two recent rounds of federal grants are allowing Dubuque to seize the opportunity to expedite the replacement of stormwater pumps with five new stormwater pumps, along with new floodgates and a new pumphouse on the basin side of Kerper Boulevard. Dubuque has budgeted $27 million, helping it to stay ahead of the relentless whims of the river and the eventual decline of the machinery. The project is expected to go out to bid in September, with a contract anticipated in November. Construction will occur during the 2025 and 2026 seasons, with a final completion set for June 2027. The new pumphouse on the basin side of the levee will allow Dubuque to keep operating the existing pumps during the two-year construction.
