A new Grant County District Attorney has been appointed. Governor Tony Evers appointed Ryan Kieler on Tuesday. The appointment of Kieler fills an opening created by former District Attorney Ian Mickelson’s resignation. Kieler will serve for the remainder of the unexpired term that ends in January 2025. Kieler is a lifelong Wisconsinite who has deep roots in the Grant County community. Kieler has been practicing private law in Platteville since 2016 where he focused on criminal defense. He is a graduate of UW-La Crosse and the University of Wisconsin Law School. Evers must also appoint a Sheriff for Grant County following the resignation of Nate Dreckman, who becomes Grant County’s first County Administrator.
