DPI receives $10 million for mental health services

The Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction will receive $10 million in grant funding to grow staffing capacity for mental health services at schools across the state. The five-year grant from the U.S. Department of Education was announced Monday. It’s part of the 2024 School-Based Mental Health Professionals Grant Program and the DPI was one of just 22 recipients nationwide. State Superintendent Dr. Jill Underly said the DPI will use the funds to recruit and retain school counselors, psychologists and social workers as well as extend online certification pathways. The grant is funded through the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act.
