Officials in Cuba City are seeking a series of improvements to the community’s parks. Talk of these improvements took up a large part of the Cuba City Common Council’s meeting Wednesday as the council approved two items relating to future park developments. Council members approved a Park & Recreation Board and Community Development Commission recommendation to develop a dog park at South Cody and Monroe streets. Tax-increment financing and donations will pay for the project. The council also unanimously approved the Park & Recreation Board’s recommendation to apply for a Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources stewardship grant for park improvements. The scope of this grant is unknown, but the city applied for a similar $640,000 matching grant last year and was not selected. Instead the city used its match to make developments to Splinter Park, such as adding new playground equipment, a pavilion and a concession stand.
