The Wisconsin Supreme Court on Wednesday suspended its investigation into the leaking of a draft order in a case that could enshrine abortion rights in the state, saying the leak was likely deliberate but that no culprit could be definitively identified. The investigator spoke to 62 people, 28 of whom had immediate access to the draft order that was eventually leaked. That includes all seven Supreme Court Justices who were serving at the time. While the investigation could not identify who leaked the draft order, it did uncover some security issues that investigators recommended addressing. That includes regularly updating staff key card information, ensuring hard copies of confidential documents are delivered in secure packaging and requiring staff to only use government-issued email accounts. The investigators also recommended that the court establish a “dedicated external investigative team,” citing that delays in starting the investigation led to evidence being lost.
