A southwest Wisconsin man recently was sentenced to three months in jail and two years of probation after being found guilty of a hate crime. 22-year-old Christopher L. Drapeau, recently received the sentence after being found guilty by a jury of battery, disorderly conduct with a hate-crime modifier and criminal damage to property with a party to a crime modifier. In addition to jail time and probation, Drapeau must complete 50 hours of community service, a victim offender mediation program and an educational program on racial injustice, online court records state. The charges are related to an early morning disturbance Aug. 18 at a party at a home in Jamestown Township during which Drapeau and his brother, 20-year-old Anthony T. Drapeau assaulted another man while saying racial slurs and other derogatory comments. Anthony Drapeau previously entered a no-contest plea to two counts of disorderly conduct and was sentenced to one year of probation.
