University of Wisconsin- Platteville professors plan to take action in opposition to a proposed Board of Regents policy that has garnered controversy among faculty across the university system. The policy, which regents will consider this month, would provide a model for core general education requirements across the system, creating a “consistent approach” to transferring. Faculty members, however, said they were not given an opportunity to provide their input on the policies. Last week, the Faculty Senate voted unanimously to hold the teach-in, which is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday, Nov. 10, at Velzy Commons at UW-P’s Ullsvik Hall. The teach-in will consist of different 50-minute sessions intended to educate attendees on the value of general education coursework. Organizers asked faculty to encourage student participation in multiple ways. In a statement provided by UW-P public relations specialist Christine Bellport, university leadership affirmed the right of the faculty members to express their opinions.
