The families of several second-grade students in Scales Mound, IL are sharing concerns after they say their children were touched inappropriately during school by a fellow student. At a school board meeting this month, multiple parents said their children were inappropriately touched by another second-grader in a series of incidents. School board members and district officials said they could not discuss specific disciplinary procedures or details regarding the incidents but emphasized their commitment to protecting students. About 30 parents attended the meeting, during which they stated that at least three children have shared that they were touched inappropriately by a fellow classmate. According to board members, the district plans to develop a safety committee including staff, board members, a parent and a student. District officials also plan to review internal and external communication procedures and provide additional staff training, including specific training regarding recess duties for paraprofessionals.
