Laurie Barry of Mineral Point testified for nearly 2 hours Thursday in a reckless homicide trial in Dodgeville for the death of Selah Kaden in 2018. Laurie Barry and her daughter, Alexis Barry, are both on trial for the 13 year old girl’s death at their home in Mineral Point. Laurie said she and her family took Selah Kaden into their care in April 2018, as Selah’s adoptive parents, Lisa and David Kaden prepared for their youngest daughter to have heart surgery. Despite knowing Selah had behavioral issues, Laurie Barry said she and her family felt comfortable caring for the teen. In her testimony, Laurie Barry said Selah “fake-fainted” and her feet slipped, causing her to hit her head. A report says Selah got up and acknowledged that it hurt, but later “fake-fainted” again. She didn’t stand back up and it became a concern. Eventually, Laurie called her husband and asked him to come home, because she didn’t know what to do. Right before Jesse Barry came home, she noticed Selah’s condition changed and the color receded from her face. EMS was contacted and Selah died later at a hospital.
