Muscoda officer’s death ruled accidental drowning

Muscoda Police Department Officer Kate Fleischauer died after accidentally drowning, Police Chief Bill Schramm said Tuesday. Fleischauer was found unresponsive in an indoor heated pool at an address on East Catherine Street at around 1 p.m. Sunday, Schramm said. An officer arrived at the scene, identified her and determined she had died. Schramm said the Grant County Sheriff’s Office is assisting with the investigation into Fleischauer’s death, but the early results of an investigation and autopsy point to her cause of death being accidental by means of drowning. Fleischauer served with the Muscoda Police Department for 12 years.
