Governor Tony Evers vetoed proposed maps Republicans in the Assembly and Senate passed last Wednesday. Evers said his choice to veto the legislation was because he objected to “maps designed to undemocratically serve the politicians who draft them.” Evers went on to say, “The Bill prioritizes protecting incumbents, gerrymandered legislatures by making their future campaigns more convenient for them.” While the action to veto the legislation was expected, one of the bill’s authors, Rep. Loren Oldenburg of Viroqua said that Republicans introduced and voted on the legislation with the hope of working with Democrats to draw fair legislative boundaries.
