On Tuesday at approximately 7:30 pm, a Grant County Deputy was on patrol on Eagle Point Road when he was flagged down by a man on the side of the road. The man informed the deputy that he was near his vehicle with his dog when he observed a vehicle traveling west into O’Learys Lake at a very high rate of speed. The man was afraid the vehicle was going to crash into him or his dog. The driver then lost control, rolled the vehicle and it entered the river. An investigation revealed that 28 year old Bo Johnson of Platteville, was driving his 2008 Lexus into the Oleary’s Lake Parking area. Johnson lost control of his vehicle as he traveled at a high rate of speed on Eagle Point Road. Johnson crossed both lanes of travel as he spun 180 degrees leaving the south side of the roadway. The vehicle rolled and then entered the river and it sank in approximately five feet of water. Johnson swam out of his car and immediately left the area with a passerby. Johnson did not report the crash to law enforcement. The Grant County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by Donnies Tire and Tow, the Jamestown Fire Department, and Dickeyville Fire Department swift water rescue members. Johnson was cited for reckless driving, endangering safety, failure to maintain control, failure to report a crash, and possession of marijuana. This incident is still under investigation.
