Chamber data indicates tourism in Platteville simmered down in 2024 after a record year in 2023. Platteville Regional Chamber Executive Director Wayne Wodarz this week presented an annual tourism report to the Platteville Common Council that showed continued optimism for the future despite slight drops in room tax collections and visitors to the chamber office, which doubles as a Wisconsin Welcome Center. Room tax collections totaled about $201,125 in 2024, compared to $220,548 the year prior. Prior to this, the numbers had been steadily increasing since at least 2016, chamber data shows, except for a 2020 decrease. Still, 2024’s number is the third-highest of all time. About 70% of the 2024 room tax collections will go toward the chamber’s tourism promotion efforts and 28%, or about $56,318, to the city’s general fund. The chamber is budgeting for a 7% decrease in room tax in 2025 out of caution.
