A Mineral Point man was arrested for OWI after crashing his vehicle and then stealing another. On Saturday at 1:51 AM A Lafayette County deputy responded to Prairie RD in Kendall Township for a one vehicle accident. 26-year-old Zachary A.R. Smith-Titley of Mineral Point was traveling on Prairie RD when he lost control of his vehicle, left the roadway and struck a power pole. The vehicle Smith-Titley was operating during the crash received disabling damage. Smith-Titley then stole a 2014 Jeep from a nearby residence and left the scene of the accident. Smith-Titley was later located in Mineral Point where he was arrested for Operating While Intoxicated (1st Offense). Smith-Titley was released and transported to Lafayette County Jail where he was then booked for Operating a Vehicle Without Owner’s Consent where he remains. Smith-Titley was also cited for Failure to Maintain Control, Failure to Report an Accident, and Hit and Run – Causing Property Damage. Scenic Rivers, Mineral Point Police, and Iowa County Sheriff’s Office assisted.
