The Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association rejected Viroqua’s initial application to change athletic conferences on Tuesday. The realignment request was denied by a vote of 13-1, and the school has the opportunity to appeal the decision on January 8, though it has not yet decided whether to do so or not. The process began back in October. According to Brown, Viroqua currently has about 340 students enrolled and the largest school in the Southwest Wisconsin Conference this year is around 470, while most others in the league are around 400 students. The potential switch was in regards to every sport besides football as football has a different procedure to go through. At the moment, Lancaster, Platteville, Prairie du Chien, River Valley, Dodgeville and Richland Center are all in the SWC.
