The Wisconsin Supreme Court last week announced that it is seeking roughly $3 million in funding to make courthouses safer for people who use and work in them as part of its proposed 2027-29 budget. The budget proposal also calls for adding judges where workloads are highest, investing in the judicial and court-staff workforce, and maintaining the technology courts rely on. The court system is requesting eight new circuit court branches, an additional judgeship on the District III Court of Appeals and a new security grant program. According to the Supreme Court, circuit court judges reported 129 security threats last year. The court system is requesting about $3 million over the biennium for court security, including $1.5 million for a court security improvement grant program.
