Grant County authorities say two people were injured and a corrosive chemical was spilled in a crash between two semi-tractor trailers this morning on Highway 151 between Dickeyville and Platteville. Those injured were the drivers of the semis. Both were taken by ambulance to Southwest Health in Platteville, and reports say both were in stable condition when they left the crash scene. Dickeyville firefighters responded to a vehicle fire in the southbound lanes of Highway 151 near Airport Road, southwest of Platteville at about 3:20 a.m. Crews were still working at the scene when a stopped semi from NM Transfer Company of Neenah, carrying aluminum brightener was hit from behind by a second semi, which was carrying canned produce. The crash released 500 gallons of the aluminum brightener, which is described as an “inhalation hazard” and corrosive. Two homes on the south side of the highway were evacuated as a result, though those occupants were not injured. Hazmat teams responded to the crash scene for clean-up. Highway 151 was closed until around 1pm, when one northbound lane and one southbound lane was reopened.
