U. S. Senator Tammy Baldwin, along with Senators Travis Tranel of Cuba City and Howard Marklein of Spring Green toured the Platteville Fire Station Monday morning. Baldwin, a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, secured a $7 million investment for the fire station in federal funding legislation that was signed into law by President Biden last month. The fire department was established in May 1874 and serves Platteville and seven townships. Baldwin said the fire station has served the area well since being constructed in the early 1960s, but its time for a new fire station. A suggested site of a new fire station is the O.E. Gray Elementary School location, and a possibility of breaking ground in 2024. Baldwin will visit the future site of Memorial Hospital of Lafayette County and the Iowa County Food Pantry tomorrow.
