MADISON, Wis. — Less than a year after college athletes were first allowed to sign sponsorship deals to use their name, image and likeness (NIL) in advertising, the University of Wisconsin is launching a new platform to make it easier for Badgers to find those opportunities.
The “YouDub Marketplace” is believed to be one of the first school-specific NIL marketplaces in the country. On the site, Badgers fans, supporters and businesses can look through hundreds of student-athlete profiles and send a pitch to those they are interested in sending NIL opportunities.
“This is an exciting step in our evolving efforts to provide the highest level of support to our student-athletes when it comes to their NIL opportunities,” UW-Madison athletic director Chris McIntosh said in a statement announcing the platform. “This new marketplace makes it easy for our fans and our business community to channel that support directly to the student-athletes. Most importantly, it gives our student-athletes another powerful tool as they continue to elevate themselves in the NIL space.”
For the student-athletes, the platform makes it easier to promote themselves, find those money-making opportunities, execute potential deals, and get paid. The platform also ensures the business deals are still compliant with NCAA rules.
