Jury selection took place Thursday in the trial of two women charged in the 2018 death of a 13-year-old girl in their care. Laurie Barry and Alexis Barry each face a felony charge of 1st-degree reckless homicide in the death of Selah Kaden. A forensic pathologist determined Kaden died from suffocation and a patterned beating with blunt force. They also believed more than one person was involved in the girl’s death. Kaden’s parents, who live in North Carolina, sent her to live in Mineral Point with the Barrys due to behavioral problems at home. The two families had been close when they lived in Madison. Opening statements in the trial are set for Monday.
