Sex Offender Release

Lafayette County authorities are notifying the public of a sex offender being released to the area. Officials say 45-year-old Jason Schmidt is set to be released on or before June 7th, and will reside along Highway 23 between Mineral Point and Darlington. Schmidt was convicted of 1st-degree sexual assault of a child in 2003. Conditions of his supervised release include not being allowed to work or volunteer with children. Schmidt must also be subject to electronic monitoring. The Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office reminds residents this information is not intended to alarm you – but to help keep the public informed.
