A longtime area educator in the Tri-States has been selected as the next superintendent at the Southwestern School District in Hazel Green. David Hoeger will assume the role July 1st. He will replace current Superintendent John Costello, who is set to retire in June after 13 years with the district. Hoeger was one of three finalists selected for the position, alongside applicants Kyle Luedtke and Steve Lutzke. A release states that the district’s final selection was based on two rounds of interviews, as well as community feedback. Hoeger began his professional career as a math teacher at Dubuque’s St. Joseph Elementary School in 1989. He went on to teach at Jones Junior High School, as well as Hempstead and Western Dubuque high schools in Dubuque. He later served as assistant principal and then principal at Western Dubuque.
