National organization shuts down UW-Madison fraternity

A UW-Madison fraternity is shut down by its national organization following a hazing incident. Alpha Epsilon Pi issued a cease-and-desist order after 30 pledges were found in appalling conditions last week. Madison Police acting on a tip found the young men covered in food and other liquids in the basement of the fraternity. The thermostat was set to 81 and according to a police incident report several men showed signs of having been physically assaulted. Two fraternity leaders were arrested on misdemeanor hazing and disorderly conduct charges. Alpha Epsilon Pi’s order shuts down all activities while the national organization investigates the Madison chapter, which was suspended by the UW more than a decade ago but still occupies its campus area house.
