Authorities have released the names of two of the deceased individuals from a ‘foul play’ death and subsequent chase in Wisconsin. According to a news release from Sheriff Joe Kenedy authorities responded to a home in La Motte just after 7 PM yesterday for a report of an unresponsive person. When they arrived, they found 32-year-old Tana Poppe deceased. An investigation shows the death was the result of foul play. Investigators later learned the victim had two children, a 13-year-old and a 5-month old who were not located. A short time later, authorities learned that a person of interest was involved in a vehicle pursuit in Dane County. During the pursuit, both individuals in the vehicle fired multiple gunshots at officers. The vehicle was disabled and the people inside ran away. One occupant, the missing 13-year-old, later was located deceased of unknown causes. Another occupant, identified as 38-year-old Alexander Grunke of Middleton, fled the area and entered a residence in Albion. The home was occupied at the time Grunke arrived, but deputies were able to remove the family safely. Grunke barricaded himself in the basement and later was found deceased from an apparent suicide. The 5-month-old earlier had been handed off to an acquaintance of Grunke’s in Dunn, Wisconsin, and now is safe and unharmed. The relationship between Grunke and Poppe has not yet been released. Law enforcement are continuing to investigate the case but do not believe there is any danger to the general public at this time. More information will be released as it becomes available.
