Iowa County deputies arrested a Fitchburg man on suspicion of drunk driving after receiving multiple calls about a white work van swerving across both lanes on U.S. Highway 18-151 and slowing traffic. Investigators say the van’s speed fluctuated between about 30 and 65 miles per hour before deputies stopped it near Barneveld in poor weather. While deputies were conducting the stop, they noticed an intoxicated man—later identified as the driver’s brother—running along the highway shoulder toward the scene after getting out of another vehicle. The brother was taken to the Iowa County Law Enforcement Center to wait for a sober ride. The driver, 29-year-old Antonio Castro Lopez, was arrested for first-offense OWI and cited for open intoxicants, operating without a license, and deviating from the designated lane; he was later released to a responsible party.
