A Lancaster man convicted in a southwest Wisconsin homicide is heading to prison. 40-year-old Jessie Slaughter was sentenced in Crawford County Circuit Court Wednesday to 25 years in prison and 15 years of extended supervision. Slaughter pleaded no contest in March to a reduced charge of first-degree reckless homicide in the 2024 death of 65-year-old Daniel Welsch at the victim’s apartment in Prairie du Chien. Court documents state that officers found a bloody knife near Welch’s body the night of his death. An autopsy later determined Welsch died of strangulation. Slaughter was arrested a day later in Platteville.
