An 80-year-old Prairie du Sac man has been deemed competent to stand trial in the May shooting death of his wife. George Paul is charged with first-degree intentional homicide in the death of his wife, Susan Paul who was found dead May 8 at Pewit’s Nest State Natural Area. He also faces charges of intentionally pointing a firearm at a person, endangering safety by reckless use of a firearm, criminal damage to property, discharging a firearm within 100 yards of a building, and two counts of first-degree recklessly endangering safety. A competency hearing was scheduled after reports that George has dementia. George is scheduled to appear in court on Oct. 15.
