A Mineral Point man is dead following a motorcycle crash involving a semi-truck Tuesday morning in Iowa County. Authorities say the crash happened just after 6 o’clock at Highway 23 and the northbound U.S. 151 Exit 40 ramp in Mineral Point. Investigators say a northbound semi exited Highway 151, entered the Highway 23 intersection, and struck a northbound motorcycle that had the right-of-way. The semi allegedly continued northbound and left the scene. The motorcyclist was identified as 60-year-old Bartholomew L. Chabotte [cha-bot] of Mineral Point. Emergency crews began lifesaving efforts and took Chabotte to Upland Hills Health, where he was pronounced dead. Deputies used video obtained from another semi parked nearby to identify the suspected truck. Authorities later stopped a matching semi near Ridgeway. The driver, 49-year-old Ahmed Mustefa Deneto of Iowa City, Iowa, was arrested and booked into the Iowa County Jail on a felony charge of hit-and-run involving death. The Iowa County Sheriff’s Office and Wisconsin State Patrol continue to investigate.
