A former nurse accused of abusing infants in a Madison hospital neo-natal intensive care unit will spend up to 13 years in prison. Forty-four-year-old Christopher Kaphaem was sentenced Thursday after pleading guilty to 19 felonies last fall. Kaphaem was suspended from UnityPoint Health – Meriter Hospital when investigators first suspected his involvement with patient injuries. One infant suffered fractures to his skull, a broken wrist and left humerus fracture. Kaphaem worked at Meriter for 14 years and was previously employed at U-W Hospital.
