A chicken coop was destroyed and 4000 young chickens died in a fire in Belmont Township late Wednesday night. The Platteville Fire Department was dispatched around 9:40pm to the Jacob Stoltzfus Farm on West Mound Road. Upon arriving at the scene, the 250 foot by 50 foot structure was fully engulfed. The young chickens were delivered earlier Wednesday. Firefighters extinguished the burning areas of concern so the fire would not spread to any other buildings on the farm.
