Cause of Death Of Iowa Woman Revealed

State officials have released the cause of death of a woman killed last month in a Dubuque County homicide. 32 year old Tana Poppe was found deceased in a rural Dubuque County home near La Motte on April 10. The Iowa Office of the State Medical Examiner completed a forensic autopsy on her body, and the cause of death was ruled as multiple gunshot wounds. Further investigation determined that Poppe’s two children, a 13-year-old and a 5-month-old, also were living at the residence, but neither were located at the home when authorities arrived. A short time later, authorities learned that a person of interest in the case, 38 year old Alexander Grunke of Middleton, Wisconsin was involved in a vehicle pursuit in Dane County in Wisconsin. The missing 13-year-old also was in the vehicle. The infant had been dropped off unharmed with an acquaintance of Grunke’s. The 13 year old was later found dead of unknown causes in a wooded area. Grunke fled before entering a residence in Albion, Wisconsin where he barricaded himself in the basement and later was found deceased from an apparent suicide.
