Ahead of Koe Wetzel’s performance at a Billboard-sponsored SXSW event at Moody Amphitheater on March 13, the publication has a cover story feature on the 32-year-old country music star. The Pittsburg, Texas native reflects on his journey from his small hometown to touring the world, as his gritty brand of country rock has earned him both critical acclaim and a dedicated fan base. “It used to be about having a good time, making rent, making gas money to get to the next show,” Wetzel reflects. “And now it’s completely different. It’s wild to see where it’s come from and where we’re at.” Wetzel’s recent hit, “High Road,” with Jessie Murph, spent five weeks at No. 1 on Billboard’s Country Airplay chart in December and January. “When I first heard ‘High Road,’ it felt very nostalgic to me,” Murph says of their collaboration. “It felt like a song I could’ve heard when I was a kid, which I loved.” (Billboard)
