Proposed Data Center facts from Grant Co. Economic Development

The possibility of an AI Data Center in Grant County has raised many questions and concerns from business and residents. Grant County Economic Development Director Ron Brisbois has provided the WGLR News Department with some additional information about the data center following conversations with the unnamed developer. 

Proposed Data Center Facts

Acrage: approximately 500

Price: $1 Billion – $2 Billion

Electricity: Developer will pay for all the infrastructure improvements including substation. Electrical rates will not increase for patrons because of this data center.

Water: Closed Looped cooling system. Developer will pay for all the costs of infrastructure. No PFAs. Cooling system will be filtered.

Employment: 50 full-time workers, boots on the ground dedicated to Grant County Data Center campus. Technician income will be greater than county’s average wage.

Sound Level: 44 decibels at the property line (60 dB is the level of normal conversation)

Light: Downward facing lighting, lighting designed to minimize light pollution.

Estimated Property Tax Income: $5,572,125 annually (this is a conservative estimate based on current mill rates).

• This is a Hyperscale project.
• No Bitcoin or Cryptocurrency mining.
• Exact location is yet to be determined.
• 300’ setbacks for buildings from property line.
• Redundant fiber available and business is responsible for costs to connect.
• No new renewable energy (solar or wind) will be developed to directly support this project.
• Grant County EDC has not signed, nor has been asked, to sign any Non-Disclosure Agreements.
• Wisconsin Dept. of Safety & Professional Services will review and approve or deny all building plans.
• No Tax Increment Financing (TIF). Neither the county nor the township will be providing incentives.
• The developer will be required to adhere to Wisconsin DNR regulations pertaining to permitting, including potable well installation, storm water management, wastewater, and wetlands. DNR will also determine if air permitting is required. WI-DNR will do monitoring for compliance with all DNR regulations.
