The City of Platteville is preparing to do well siting studies as one of the city’s three wells near the end of its lifespan. Well 3 has been in service since 1932 and the lifespan of wells is generally 80-100 years. To maintain the water quality, this well needs to be replaced by 2030. The City is currently doing a Well 7 Siting Study to review potential locations for a new well. The City is also looking into possible grants and low-interest loans to help keep costs down. The estimated cost for siting study according to the City of Platteville’s website is $70,000. They are hoping to have that completed by April 2028 to begin well drilling, testing, approving the following year in order to have a new well live by 2030.
