Authorities said an East Dubuque man sought in connection with a fatal shooting at an eastern Iowa grocery store was shot when law enforcement attempted to take the individual into custody Tuesday in Delaware County. According to a report, 38 year old Nathan Russell of East Dubuque, sustained gunshot injuries after he failed to comply with the directions” of a Delaware County sheriff’s deputy after he was located in Hopkinton. He was taken to University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics for treatment. An investigation by the Jones and Delaware county sheriff’s offices and Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation is ongoing, and the incidents are being reviewed by the Jones and Delaware county attorneys. Monticello police were dispatched at 7:29 a.m. Tuesday to the Fareway Store for a report of a shooting. Authorities learned that 48 year old Aaron McAtee of Monticello, a Fareway employee, was outside the store when he was shot in what appears to be a random act of violence.
