Forecasters have issued a winter storm warning for much of the tri-state area, with snow and dangerously cold wind chills expected. The National Weather Service issued a winter storm warning for Clayton, Delaware, Dubuque and Jackson counties in Iowa; Crawford, Grant, Iowa and Lafayette counties in Wisconsin and Jo Daviess County in Illinois. The warning is effective through noon Saturday. Jones County in Iowa, is under a blizzard warning from 5 p.m. today through noon Saturday. The forecast calls for heavy snow, some mixed precipitation and significant blowing now. Snow accumulations of 7 to 14 inches and ice accumulations of a light glaze are possible. Winds gusting as high as 40 mph are predicted, along with wind chills as low as 40 below zero. Travel will be very difficult. Blowing and drifting snow could reduce visibilities to a quarter-mile or less.
