A new brain health retreat room has opened at a local high school, as officials continue to tout the success of rooms already operating at other schools. Maquoketa High School opened its brain health retreat room last month. Students can come to the room for short periods during the school day to meet with a staff member and work through emotions or stressful situations. Maquoketa High School is the eighth local school to receive a brain health retreat room designed and funded by local nonprofit Brain Health Now. Over the past two years, the organization has sponsored rooms at Dubuque Senior High School, Dubuque Hempstead High School, Dubuque Community School District’s Alta Vista Campus, Wahlert Catholic High School, West Delaware High School, and in Wisconsin at Southwestern High School and Potosi High School, along with Ames (Iowa) High School.
