Dubuque officials warn of a scam involving waiting lists for income-eligible rental assistance. The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development has reported incidents in which scammers target individuals seeking access to Housing Choice Voucher waiting lists across the country. According to a press release issued by the city of Dubuque, the scam involves an unauthorized group falsely promising shortcuts to the waiting lists. Dubuque’s voucher waiting list only opens the second Tuesday of each month, and the link is only available at cityofdubuque.org/HCV. There are never any fees associated with applying for a voucher waiting list, and applicants are notified of placement on the lists by official letters from Dubuque’s Housing & Community Development Department. Residents suspecting a scam should email housing@cityofdubuque.org and contact local law enforcement.
