Police said a man arrested in 2022 for his role in a fraudulent check-cashing scheme in Dubuque faces new charges related to the case. 29-year-old Traveon H. Reese, 29, of Atlanta, was arrested at 10 p.m. Monday at Dubuque Law Enforcement Center on charges of first-degree theft, forgery, conspiracy to commit a non-forcible felony and ongoing criminal conduct. Court documents state that Reese; 20-year-old Jadah Johnson of Decatur, Ga.; and other individuals were engaged in a counterfeit check-cashing scheme in November 2022 in Dubuque. Those running the scheme paid people to cash fraudulent checks at local banks, documents state. Johnson was sentenced in May to two to five years of probation in relation to the scheme. Previous state-level charges against Reese related to the case were dismissed in February 2023 in favor of a federal investigation into the case, documents state.
