Prairie du Chien will receive nearly $5 million in federal funding to help construct a new public safety facility that will house both police and fire departments under one roof. The U.S. Department of Agriculture awarded the grant to support the $10.5 million project, which city officials say will save taxpayer dollars while improving emergency services coordination. City leaders chose to combine the two departments into a single facility rather than construct separate buildings for each service. Officials hope to break ground on the new facility as early as the end of July.
