Chair of New Glarus Town Board found guilty of stealing opponent’s political sign

The chair of the New Glarus Town Board was found guilty on Friday of stealing an opponent’s campaign sign before the April 2025 election, online records show. 63-year-old Chris Narveson was convicted of misdemeanor theft and obstructing an officer. Each count carries a maximum penalty of a $10,000 fine, nine months in jail or both. His plea and sentencing hearing is scheduled for Sept. 8. Narveson has served on the town board for nearly 20 years and has been its chair since 2015. He also serves as Green County highway commissioner. Narveson won reelection in April 2025 over Rob Ready. According to a criminal complaint, Ready reported to authorities in March 2025 that someone had removed one of his campaign signs without his consent.
