Monroe woman arrested for false reports on self-inflicted injuries

A Monroe woman was arrested Sunday after Green County authorities said she falsely reported being attacked and had self-inflicted injuries the night before. Sheriff’s deputies responded to a 911 call at Cadiz Springs State Park Saturday evening. As first responders arrived, 43-year-old Sarah Bruner, who made the 911 call, told deputies that an unknown man had attacked her with a knife and strangled her. Emergency medical services took her to the emergency department at SSM Health Monroe Hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening. Deputies used a drone with a thermal camera to search for the alleged assailant but found no other people. Authorities also found no physical evidence of an attack in the area. Sheriff’s detectives met with Bruner Sunday for additional questioning and determined that she had provided false information. “The attack never occurred, the injury was self-inflicted and the information provided the night prior intentionally misled investigators,” the sheriff’s office said in a statement. The woman was arrested on suspicion of obstructing an officer. She was released pending a future court appearance.
