One airlifted following motorcycle vs. SUV collision

The Grant County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a serious motorcycle crash on Highway 81 near Shortcut Road in Bloomington. On Sunday morning, a motorcycle and SUV collided head-on. 66-year-old Sanford Smith, of Texas was riding east on Highway 81 when his motorcycle crossed the centerline into the path of 83-year-old James Uppena, of Madison. Smith was ejected from the motorcycle and sustained serious injuries. He was airlifted to a Madison-area hospital. Uppena sustained minor injuries.
