Residents packed a town hall meeting Monday night in De Soto to voice concerns about a major infrastructure project that could reshape the landscape of southwest Wisconsin. The proposed Maribell Project would construct a 140-mile high-voltage power line stretching from southeast Minnesota through parts of southwest Wisconsin, including Vernon and Crawford counties. Project developers argue the line is essential to help meet projected energy demand across the Midwest. However, many residents who attended the meeting expressed deep concerns about the potential consequences for landowners in the affected areas. Project organizers acknowledged that the approval and construction process will take considerable time. They encouraged residents to reach out to their elected representatives with questions and concerns as the project moves forward.
