The City of Lancaster will not be going forward with a so-called “wheel tax.” After common council members split the vote at 4 each, Lancaster Mayor Dave Varnam broke the tie by voting against the proposal. City officials proposed the $20-dollar Motor Vehicle Registration Fee as a way to collect more funding to address street maintenance projects. The Lancaster Common Council members voting against the wheel tax said they believe the city does need to review transportation revenue options – however they did not feel a tax on citizens was the right way to alleviate the issue at this time.
