The number of all-terrain and utility vehicle routes on which riders may travel through the City of Platteville will double in 2020 if council members pass a proposed resolution to establish a permanent ordinance regulating the vehicles. Common Council members are considering opening Valley Road and sections of Chestnut, Lancaster, Madison, Mineral and Water streets to ATV/UTV traffic. In addition. the council is considering adding Ridge Avenue and North Fourth, Pitt and Sylvia streets to the list. The move comes despite some community concerns that the vehicles are unsafe for on-road use. The new ordinance also would open routes from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. year-round. The council is scheduled to take action on the proposal at its January 14th meeting.
